When I first stepped into college, I had a mix of fear and expectations. Looking back at my first month, the reality was quite different from what I had imagined. The first surprise was how much there was to study. I realised that becoming a nurse requires strong academic knowledge along with practical skills. Sometimes, we also had to complete assignments after class, which made the schedule even more demanding.
One of my biggest expectations was that I would immediately feel confident and capable. However, in reality, the first month was more of a period of adjustment. Everything was new – the environment, the subjects, and the responsibilities. It took time to understand and adapt to this new phase of life.
Emotionally, the first month was a completely new experience for me. At first, I felt nervous and sometimes even doubted myself. There were moments when I wondered if I would be able to manage everything. However, with the support of my friends and parents, I slowly started to feel more comfortable and confident.
The first month also brought many positive experiences. I met classmates who share the same goal of becoming nurses. We help each other with studies, share notes, and encourage one another during difficult times. This sense of friendship and support made the journey easier and more enjoyable.
One of the most memorable experiences was learning basic nursing procedures. Even though we started with simple skills like handwashing techniques, monitoring vital signs, cold application, and bed making, these were important first steps in our training. Practising these skills made me feel closer to becoming a nurse.
Looking back at my expectations and the reality of my first month, I can say that the journey is more challenging than I had imagined. However, it is also meaningful and rewarding. With time, patience, and effort, I am slowly learning and growing in this profession.
